effort to notify you of cancellations in a timely manner.

Southampton Graduate Campus
Caring for Students
Caring for the World
Founded in 1963 with 249
students, Southampton Graduate Campus has grown
into a community of about 1300
students and 200 faculty and staff who live and work together
among the villages and waterways of Long
Island's East End. The College enjoys all the benefits of its
link with Long Island University, one of the
largest private universities in the country, while remaining
small and select enough for students to receive
individual attention and recognition.
Southampton Graduate Campus'
mission statement
recognizes the importance
of a close-knit community. "The close human relationships
among students, faculty, staff and the
community provide a nurturing environment that prepares students
with both the skills to become
effective members of society and a sense of social obligation that
will enrich their lives and careers.
Small class-size, outstanding faculty, friendly and accessible
staff and administration all combine to create
and open atmosphere with an emphasis on individual attention.
Students are an integral part of the
Southampton community." Our mission statement sums up our
obligation to education and community.
"As we move toward the twenty-first century,
Southampton will remain strong in its commitment to care
for students who will care for the world."

Identification Cards
Summer students are issued identification cards that will admit them to campus facilities and
authorize student rates for activities. The I.D. card will also enable students to take books out of the
library, access the campus at night, use the swimming pool, etc. Cards are available at the Enrollment
Services Office.
Library
The Library is located between Chancellors Hall and the Fine Arts Building. Its resources
include over 160,000 volumes (30,000 volumes are in the field of education encompassing various
academic concentrations in the Masters Program), about 680 periodical titles, and 20 newspapers. Other
holdings include several thousand pamphlets, video tapes, CDs, microforms and clippings. The Library is
a depository for Selected United States Government and New York State documents.
Nearly 20 computer terminals provide access to an on-line catalog/circulation system and to over
100 online databases (many in full text). Millions of additional volumes are available through various
interlibrary loan networks.

Technology Center
The Technology Center at Southampton Graduate Campus is a comprehensive facility that supports and coordinates, across disciplines, all high-end computer activity at the College. Its centerpiece is the Island Room, a state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary computer room that serves as a classroom for courses that use computer technology in an essential way, and as a project room for student and faculty work.
The Island Room has twenty powerful Silicon Graphics workstations, a dedicated Silicon Graphics Origin200 server, and a rich array of peripheral devices -- scanners, VCRs, printers, etc.
Software available in the Center includes image editing and other graphics manipulation packages, Web development software, video editing and compositing tools, symbolic mathematics software, and development tools for all standard programming languages.
The facilities featured in the Island Room are of the same caliber as those used for Hollywood animations and special effects, for virtual reality displays, such as those associated with NASA's Explorer mission to Mars, and for the most demanding scientific simulations. These facilities benefit a broad spectrum of students early in their college lives. The experience that students gain with advanced computer equipment will allow them to creatively use the Technology Center as they make their way
through college, gaining a significant edge in their post-college careers.
Transportation
Southampton Village is regularly serviced by the Long Island Railroad and Hampton Jitney with service to New York City and local villages. The Sunrise Coach line offers service to East Hampton, Riverhead and Greenport. Schedules are available at the Student Activities Office and the Switchboard.
