Advanced High School students may register for entry-level undergraduate courses. High school students should contact the course instructor or the Summer Office for approval.
Young Writers Workshop
Southampton Graduate Campus of Long Island University, in coordination with the acclaimed Southampton Graduate Campus Writers Conference and MFA in English and Writing, is pleased to announce the Young Writers Workshop, a non-residential writing program designed to offer inspiration and guidance to currently enrolled high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Located in a resort area of great natural beauty, this program offers a preview of college-level creative writing, an introduction to the distinguished English and Writing program at Southampton Graduate Campus, and a rare opportunity to attend a number of lectures, readings, and special events presented by the prestigious Southampton Graduate Campus Writers Conference.
Under the guidance of a resident writer, students will develop their creative writing in a workshop setting with other promising young writers. In addition to auditing selected Conference events, students can also expect classroom visits from renowned authors on the writing faculty, including Irish Legend Frank McCourt, former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins, and Essayist Roger Rosenblatt.
Students may earn one college credit for this workshop, or elect to attend on a non-credit basis.
FACULTY
Heather Dune Macadam teaches creative writing at Savannah College of Art and Design and holds her MFA from Southampton Graduate Campus. Ms. Macadam has been published by The New York Times, The Advocate, and RACING HOME: NEW STORIES BY AWARD-WINNING NORTH CAROLINA WRITERS, where one reviewer remarked she writes like “an archangel with an avenging pen.” You can also hear her quirky perceptions on life and teaching on NPR’s-All Things Considered, where she is a "semi-regular" commentator.
