Broadcasting at 25,000 watts of power from Southampton Graduate Campus
of Long Island University, WLIU, 88.3 FM, Long Island's Public Radio,
proudly offers listeners on eastern Long Island and southern New
England a balanced blend of top-quality news programs and jazz,
presented around the clock, 365 days a year. WLIU is supported primarily
by contributions from members and by underwriting grants from businesses
and individuals.
WLIU-FM is a full-service public radio station. WLIU broadcasts
a blend of jazz with National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Radio
International (PRI) news programming. These affiliations make it
possible for the station to serve as a pragmatic learning environment
where students gain significant hands-on professional experience.
The station is licensed to Southampton Graduate Campus of Long Island University,
which is committed to the development and growth of public radio
on Long Island via WLIU. WLIU is heard on the Internet at wliu.org.
The Southampton Graduate Campus campus is also home to a student managed
and operated radio station, WSCR. WSCR is distributed on the Internet
at wscr.org and on campus through TV channel 3.
WSCR provides the campus with news of campus events and is an exciting
opportunity for students to learn the necessary skills of broadcasting.
Interested students can move on to work at the WLIU-FM station when
they have demonstrated solid performance and knowledge learned on
WSCR. WSCR also provides facilities for students taking classes
in radio broadcasting.
