A morning departure from Cuzco and the beginning of a never to be forgotten days journey to the Cloud Forest. The trip was as exciting as a bus trip can get! Crossing the Urubamba River, the second largest tributary of the Amazon River, the road climbed ever upward. Sweeping vistas of the snow-capped Andes, pre-Incan burial mounds of the Lupaca people high on the hills and the colorful Andean village of Paucartambo stand out being among the most memorable sites along our route. We reach our camp in the darkness of night. The cloud forest is nestled between the snow-capped Andes and the lowland Amazonian rainforest. It is an awe inspiring and ecologically important region.
