Back to Southampton Student Giving

In their continuing dedication to strengthen local ties, Southampton Graduate Campus students touch our community through many outreach programs.

To help the many victims of the hurricane strikes in Florida, the Student Government Association collected non-perishable food and clothing to donate to the Red Cross.

Last year the college collected a total of 165 pints for the academic year. In the past, Southampton Graduate Campus students, faculty and staff proportionately donated more than Long Island University's other two campuses, winning an intercampus competition and a 60" TV donated by PC Richard and Son.

Along with faculty and staff, six Southampton students helped distribute blankets, coats and hot meals for the annual Soup Kitchen Night/Blanket Drive. Over 118 people attended the dinner, sponsored by Campus Dining Services.

Southampton basketball players, Wayne Innis, Will Smith, Angel, Damarr McBean, Leon Pursoo, and Jaoquin Smits visit Southampton Care Center residents.

Under the tutelage of Coach Pete Quinn, the Southampton Graduate Campus Runnin' Colonials men's basketball team has instituted a monthly outreach commitment. Last month they visited the residents of the Southampton Care Center.

Another important, ongoing program is the straightforward sex-ed series ?Better Choices, Better Chances,? which depicts issues relevant to HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases in language that the students speak and hear. The awareness program tours East End schools throughout the spring and is produced by Southampton Players

and their outreach troupe, S.P.O.T. (Southampton Players Outreach Theatre).

PEACE cleans up the Dune Road beaches.

Community involvement is nothing new for Southampton Graduate Campus. In the past, students have participated in a number of charitable and volunteer activities including the PEACE (Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment) Organization that removed 67 pounds garbage from the beaches along Dune Road in Southampton; Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a weekly after-school program for students at Southampton and Bridgehampton Elementary schools; and Sports Clinics providing lessons in teamwork, leadership as well as skills for local children.
