Chris Taylor is expected to be the "run" in Runnin' Colonials. The 6-foot-7 forward was scouted as having the complete package and joins a hot freshman class at Southampton Graduate Campus.
"He's the one kid who can finish the fast-break for us," said Coach Charlie Peck. "He's an incredible athlete."
Taylor was recruited by a score of schools, including Division I powers like Ryder, Hofstra, Iona and Stony Brook. However, the former Nassau County conference Player of the Year chose Southampton Graduate Campus for its friendly setting and size. Taylor also made Newsday's All Long Island First Team.
Fans this year will catch the razzle and dazzle of a potential league Rookie of the Year candidate. "When he's going in for a score, he really puts on a show," said Assistant Coach Peter Quinn.
But Taylor can also play the rough-and-tumble style that has become a trademark under Peck and Quinn. He's not only a dunker, but an aggressive shot blocker and rebounder.
"Chris adds another weapon to our arsenal," Quinn said, "and makes our team multi-dimensional. Opponents can't lock down on one player, because thanks to the athleticism of players like Chris we can move the ball quickly to an open man. But when it's one-on-one, Chris will usually win that battle."
