Rookie Billy Mandell is ready to make a splash at the NCAA level. As a part of one of the Runnin' Colonials best-ever freshman classes, he's expected to make an impact on offense in just his first year.
Mandell was a terrific three-point scorer with Bishop Fenwick Prep in Boston where he scored over 20 points a game his senior year and named to the city's All Metro Team. He was recruited by 16 schools but chose Southampton because of its academics and location. Also, with the Runnin' Colonials, he saw a team on the rise.
A 6-foot-2 guard, Assistant Coach Peter Quinn fell in love with the player because of his rugged style of play. "I saw a tape of him playing and there was one game where his head was cracked open. He got it stitched up and went right back in," Quinn said.
"There's no back-down in Billy."
Mandell may play a key part in making Southampton Graduate Campus a title contender this year. "Billy adds to our great team chemistry," Quinn said. "He's playing the style of ball that may make us successful: He's tough and hardworking and knows how to get things done on defense."
