Junior forward Jason Lewis is really coming into his own. As a freshman two seasons ago he was the only player to start every game. Last year, he averaged a double-double in points (15.0) and rebounds (10.4) for the entire season, ranking 13th nationally in boards.
Last year he was the leading scorer for his team in eight of 27 games. He was the leading rebounder 18 times. Against nationally-ranked St. Rose on February 20, 2000, he pulled down a career best 22 boards as Southampton won with a remarkable 90-80 upset. His career-best 24 points helped down league foe CW Post 71-67 on January 8, 2000.
Lewis, who attended Roosevelt High School on Long Island, has the best low-post moves on the team. At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, combined with his ball-handling skills and a good understanding of the game, he has the ability to play either the 3- or 4-spot.
"He has a great repertoire of moves, and he always seems to get open around the ball," said Coach Charlie Peck. "He can get the job done. That's why we made him a captain."
