Created in 1969, men's tennis is one of Southampton Graduate Campus' oldest athletic programs. The team is also on the rise. In 1999, the Colonials stormed to a 5-2 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference record and received a playoff berth. The Colonials feature a wide array of talent: from former high-school stars to raw athletes from other NCAA teams who use tennis as a way to stay fit and competitive during their main sport's off-season. In 2002, Andreas Lindberg and Andreas Nilsson became rare three-sport athletes as they added tennis to their already fast-paced schedule of soccer and lacrosse. Head coach Marcus Donahue is a former tennis standout at Southern Connecticut State University and a certified pro by the US Tennis Pro Association.

Coach Marcus Donahue

Entering his second season with the Colonials is Coach Marcus Donahue, who brings years of experience and success to Southampton's newest intercollegiate program. Men's tennis is entering its fifth year at the college and has built a solid foundation of young talent that should flourish under Donahue's guidance.

In 2002, Donahue revived the men's tennis program at Southampton from a two year hiatus. He guided the nine members, many new to the sport, to a competitive season. Donahue is a native of Vernon, CT, and a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University. It was at the New Haven College where Donahue was the doubles player of the year in the NECC division, as well as the number one singles and doubles player on his team. He was a certified pro by the US Tennis Pro Association (USTPA) and played in the US Tennis Association.

Donahue, who replaces two year coach Glenn Nathan, currently resides in Westhampton where he owns and runs a tennis and golf shop. He describes himself as a "strong competitor with a passion for individual success as well as team success."
