The Southampton Graduate Campus of Long Island University's Women's basketball team shone brightest on Saturday March 13, 2004 as they claimed the 2003 - 2004 Eastern Conference Athletic Championship against Philadelphia University 72 -58. The Lady Colonials finished 19-9 in the regular season, which put them in a tie for second with Philadelphia University in the NYCAC.
Stealing the crown from the two-time defending champs the Lady Colonials were led by tournament Most Valuable Player, senior forward Jill Jensen, who played 27 minutes scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Also with 7 rebounds along with 15 points was junior guard Kiley LaPointe. LaPointe was honored to the All-tournament team. The Lady Colonials played a flawless final game after receiving a bye in the first round. "Every kid played well today," said Coach Pat McGunnigle. "They didn't let the full court press panic them and they simply settled the tempo down and took control of the game. I was very proud of their performance."
The dynamic freshman duo of Leah Getz and Sarah Mahan each played 27 minutes and showed why the future of Southampton Graduate Campus Lady's Basketball has such a bright future ahead of it. Getz started and scored 10 points along with dishing out 5 assists and pulling down 5 rebounds. Coming off the bench Mahan contributed with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
Also coming off the bench was senior co-captain Nyree Frazier who sparked the team with her outstanding free-throw shooting going 8-10 from the charity stripe and scoring 12 points while grabbing 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. The entire team contributed to the effort with every player that suited up stepping onto the floor.
The 2003-2004 Lady Colonials may be the best-stocked team McGunnigle has ever coached. "I am working with quality, skilled kids who are very versatile," he said. "This has been a great team to work with. They really came together and played well."

Saturday 03/13 ECAC Finals (TBA) @ Philadelphia University
The Lady Colonials earned the #1 seed in the 2004 ECAC Women's Basketball Championship. They will travel to Philadelphia University for a 3:00pm showdown with the winner of the Philadelphia University/Bloomfield College game which is slated for Thursday, March 11th at 7:00pm. This game will also take place at Philadelphia University. The Lady Colonials are looking to recapture the ECAC title for the first time since back-to-back championships in 1998 and 1999.
Wednesday 03/03 Dowling Home
The #6 Dowling College Lady Golden Lions upset #3 Southampton Graduate Campus Lady Colonials 73-65 in overtime. Southampton was unable to keep a 20 point second half lead with 7:40 remaining. Senior Jackie Lukas’ (East Northport, NY) three-pointer with 2:55 remaining cut the lead to 60-48 and Dowling’s defense held Southampton to only five more points in regulation. Junior Laura Mullally (Althone, Ireland) hit a three-pointer with :29 seconds left to tie the game. Southampton freshman Podjed ended with a career-high eight assists, five steals and two points. Freshman Leah Getz (Hudson, Ohio) hit two free throws with :26 seconds remaining to recapture the lead for the Lady Colonials. With :14 seconds left, freshman Natasha Page (Laurelton, NY) converted a lay-up to tie the game. Southampton had one final chance to win the game in regulation but fell short. In the extra frame, Southampton was outscored 8-0. Mullally’s three-pointer with 1:04 remaining was the first basket scored in overtime. Senior Zulmary Andino (Puerto Rico) hit a jumper with :14 seconds remaining to seal the win. Mullally finished the game with 30 points, including seven three-pointers, while Lukas (13 points) and Andino (11 points) were also in double digits. Southampton was led by Podjed ended with a career-high eight assists, five steals and two points. Freshman Getz with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals while junior Podjed ended with a career-high eight assists, five steals and two points. The Lady Colonials defeated the visiting Lady Lions of Molloy College 69-64 to finish their regular season on a winning note. Senior Jill Jensen led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds while senior Nyree Frazier added 11 points and nine rebounds. Senior Jen Geiger (14 points) and senior Jaime Podjed (12 points) were also in double digits on the game. The Lady Colonials finish the season at 19-8, 17-7 NYCAC which is tied for second place.
Monday 02/23 *St. Thomas Aquinas Away
The Lady Colonials defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas Lady Spartans this evening 54-44. Southampton shot a dismal 28.1% (9-32) from the field, but only trailed by one at the half 22-21. Senior Nyree Frazier scored all eight of her points in the first half for the Lady Colonials. In the second half, freshman Leah Getz led the way with 14 points including shooting 10-12 from the free throw line. Getz finished the game with 20 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Frazier and fellow senior Jen Geiger each had eight points on the night. Southampton improves to 18-8, 16-7 NYCAC.

The Lady Colonials fell to the Queens College Knights 58-48. Southampton, who trailed by two at the half, tied the game up several times in the second half but couldn't take the lead. Senior Jen Geiger was the only Lady Colonial in double figures with 15 points. Freshman Leah Getz had seven points, a career-high eight rebounds, four steals and three assists while senior Jill Jensen added eight points, eight rebounds and two steals on the night. Thursday 02/19 *Adelphi Away
The Lady Colonials fell to the Adelphi University Lady Panthers 66-65. Senior Jill Jensen led the way with 19 points and ten rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Colonials. Southampton opened up a five point lead in the second after a technical foul on Adelphi. Southampton found itself trailing 65-61 with 1:34 remaining. Senior Nyree Frazier scored her teams next three points to get Southampton within one at 65-64. Jensen hit one free throw with :20.5 seconds remaining to tie the score at 64. The game was deadlocked at 65 until a foul was called and Adelphi's Melanie Mangone hit the back end of the double bonus foul to put Adelphi up 66-65. Southampton was unable to get a final shot off. Frazier ended the game with 15 points and 13 rebounds while freshman Leah Getz ended with 13 points, six assists, five steals and three rebounds. The Lady Colonials fall to 17-7, 15-6 NYCAC.

The Lady Colonials defeated the Concordia College Lady Clippers 77-74 in overtime. Senior Jill Jensen had 14 points and six rebounds in the first half to help give the Lady Colonials a 39-31 halftime lead. The second half saw Southampton in command until the final 1:48 of the game. The Lady Colonials had a six point lead and looked to be on there way to a victory. Before they knew it, the Lady Clippers two 3-pointers in the final 50 seconds to tie the score at 67. The Lady Colonials had two opportunities to win the game in regulation but both shots rimmed out. Southampton took charge in overtime outscoring Concordia 10-7. Freshman Leah Getz scored four points in the extra frame. Jensen sealed the win on a lay-up with :28.3 seconds remaining. Jensen finished the game with a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds while Getz ended with 18 points, seven rebounds, a career-high seven assists and four steals. The Lady Colonials defeated the Lady Rams of Philadelphia this evening 68-62. The game was tied 32-32 at intermission, but the Lady Colonials outscored the Lady Rams 36-30 in the second half for the win. Freshman Leah Getz had a career-high 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals on the night while senior Nyree Frazier was good for 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Colonials defeated the Lady Chargers of the University of New Haven this evening 72-65. Freshman Sarah Mahan had ten first half points to lead the Lady Colonials, but found themselves down 37-31 at the break. Southampton's defense took over in the second half holding the Lady Chargers to 30% shooting from the field and only nine field goals. Senior Nyree Frazier made a lay-up off an assist from Jaime Podjed with 7:25 remaining in the game to give Southampton the lead for good. Frazier finished the game with a career-high 24 points and seven rebounds while Podjed ended with a career-high eight assists, five steals and two points. The Lady Colonials dropped a hard fought battle this afternoon 73-68 in overtime. Despite shooting 45% from the field in the first half, Southampton was down by eight at intermission. Senior Jaime Podjed had ten points and two assists in the first half while senior Nyree Frazier dominated the paint with six points and five rebounds. The Lady Colonials came out ready to fight in the second half. Freshman Leah Getz gave the Lady Colonials their first lead of the game on a layup with 5:20 remaining. The Lead would change seven more times in the games final minutes. Podjed continued to be hot scoring 13 second half points to keep the Lady Colonials within reach. Southampton looked as if they had the game sealed for the win leading by five with 1:06 remaining, but they were unable to hold the lead. The University of New Haven tied it up with :05.2 seconds remaining in regulation. Southampton had one last chance to end the game, but were unable to get a shot off. The Lady Colonials were outscored 12-7 in overtime with five of Southampton's points coming from Podjed. The Lady Colonials defeated the Mercy College Lady Flyers this evening 56-46 to extend their school record winning streak to nine games. Playing with a depleted roster of only seven players, the Lady Colonials fought hard for the come back win. Senior Nyree Frazier led the way in the first half with 14 points while freshman Leah Getz was good for seven first half points. Frazier continued her dominance in the second half with ten points and five rebounds. Junior Kiley Lapointe also had a good second half scoring all ten of her points in the second half. Frazier finished the game with a career-high 23 points, ten rebounds and four steals while Getz ended with 14 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. The Lady Colonials defeated the East Stroudsburg University Lady Warriors this evening 65-55 and extended their winning streak to a school record eight straight wins. Senior Nyree Frazier controlled the first half collecting 12 of her teams 29 points. The Lady Colonials shot an impressive 41.9% from the field compared to ESU's 34.6% giving them the 29-23 halftime lead. The second half belonged to senior Jaime Podjed. The guard shot 5-10 from the field for 11 points and also collected three assists. Frazier finished the game with 19 points and six rebounds while Podjed ended with 15 points, four assists and two steals. The Lady Colonials defeated the Lady Panthers of Adelphi University this afternoon 68-62. The Lady Colonials went into the locker room trailing 32-23 despite shooting 39.3% from the field. The second half saw Adelphi leading until freshman Sarah Mahan hit a ten foot jumper with 2:00 remaining to give Southampton the lead for good. Eight seconds later, Mahan showed her defensive skills as she blocked the game tying shot at 1:52. Getz scored a layup from senior Nyree Frazier with :35.9 seconds remaining to put the Lady Colonials up 64-60. Mahan came up big again with :29.3 seconds remaining as she took a charge from an Adelphi player. Getz finished the game with 15 points, a career-high six steals and five rebounds while Mahan finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Lady Colonials defeated the Lady Bears of NYIT this evening 57-48. Southampton only trailed by one at the half thanks to a three pointer by senior Katie Kenny at the buzzer. In the second half, Southampton shot 43.8% from the field to take the lead and the win from NYIT. Freshman Leah Getz scored 13 second half points shooting 4-5 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line. Getz finished the game with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Tuesday 01/20 *C.W. Post Away
The Lady Colonials pulled out an exciting win on the road in overtime tonight 56-55. Southampton shot a dismal 23.3% from the field in the first half and only collected 21 first half points. The Lady Pioneers seemed to be having the same problems, shooting only 28% from the field. Seniors Jaime Podjed and Nyree Frazier each had eight points in the first half as the score was tied 21-21. The Lady Colonials trailed by as many as 14 in the second half and ten with 6:44 remaining. It was then that senior Nyree Frazier decided to take the game into her own hands scoring seven of her teams final 13 points as the Lady Colonials closed out the game on a 13-3 run. Two of Frazier's seven points were from the free throw line with :45 seconds remaining in regulation. The Lady Colonials went into overtime down three players who fouled out. This left the door open for sophomore Meagan Carrick to be the hero. Carrick played the final 2:14 in overtime. Seeing limited time in the teams previous games didn't faze Carrick as the guard showed poise and confidence in the final minutes of the game. Carrick was fouled with 1:43 remaining in the game and the scored tied at 53. The sophomore hit one of two free throws, her first point scored all season, to put the Lady Colonials ahead by one. With :22.7 seconds remaiaing, Frazier found a seam in the Lady Pioneers full court press and found fellow senior Jen Geiger open under the basket to put Southampton ahead for good 56-55. Frazier finished with a career-high 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. The Lady Colonials improve to 9-4, 8-3 NYCAC.

The Lady Colonials suffered a tough loss to the Philadelphia University Lady Rams today 71-66. Southampton had a 36-22 halftime lead thanks in part to freshman Sarah Mahan's 18 first-half points. The Lady Colonials got the lead up to 19 points with 14 minutes remaining, however, they stumbled down the stretch scoring 30 second half points compared to the Lady Rams 49. The Lady Colonials shot an impressive 45.5% from the field and 43.8% from 3-point range, but it wasn't enough as Philadelphia went to the free-throw line 46 times and Southampton only 12 times. This proved to be the difference in the game with the Lady Rams connecting on 38 of the 46 opportunities. Mahan finished the game with 24 points, including 6-6 from 3-point range, which was good enough to earn her NYCAC Rookie of the Week honors. Freshman Leah Getz added ten points, five rebounds and three assists while senior Jill Jensen returned to the team in a pleasant way with nine points and five rebounds. The Lady Colonials defeated the Concordia College Lady Clippers 58-47. Southampton trailed by three at the half but held Concordia to 16 second half points to make up the deficit. Freshman Leah Getz led all scorers with a career-high 19 points, a career-high seven rebounds, a career-high six steals and three assists. Senior Jaime Podjed added 14 points while senior Nyree Frazier added 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Southampton improves to 4-3, 3-2 NYCAC.
Wednesday 12/10 *Dowling Home
The Lady Colonials fell to the Dowling College Lady Golden Lions tonight 68-64. Despite having a depleted roster, the Lady Colonials only trailed by one at the half thanks in part to Freshman Sarah Mahan's 16 first half points. The game remained a close battle the entire second half until the final minute when Dowling's Laura Mullally hit a shot with :30.8 seconds remaining to put the Golden Lions up by two. The Lady Colonials couldn't convert on their end and had to foul in order to stay in the game. Mullally was fouled and hit both free throws with :07 seconds remaining to seal the win. Southampton improves to 1-1 on the year while Bryant College falls to 1-1.

The Lady Colonials fell to the visiting St. Anselm Hawks today 72-55. Senior Jill Jensen (10 points, seven rebounds), senior Nyree Frazier (10 points, six rebounds) and freshman Leah Getz 10 points, four rebounds) led the way for Southampton. The Lady Colonials fall to 0-1 on the season.
