The Southampton Colonials lacrosse team's schedule was so tough last year, the team ended 6-7 and the season-ending coaches poll still ranked them No. 10 in the nation in the NCAA's Division II, the only non-winning team to be ranked. The Colonials beat Dowling, which was No. 4 at the time, at Dowling and almost beat No. 1 Adelphi, losing 11-10 in overtime.
This season's preseason poll again ranked the Colonials No. 10. While All American Rob Roddini departs due to graduation (5.08 points per game), goal leader Ken Monz (2.28 goals per game) returns for his last campaign along with stellar attacker Chris Asaro. They are joined by newcomer Mike Daquino, a junior college All American. Goalie Larry Falkman, last year an All American Second Teamer, also returns. His save percentage of 69.6 last year led the league.
The schedule this year is even tougher for the Colonials. Seven of the team's 11 games are vs. ranked foes, including the country's top three teams, national champ Adelphi, CW Post and New York Institute of Technology. But the Colonials should again rise to the level of competition.
