2003 Outlook

Southampton Graduate Campus?s lacrosse team attracts some of the Northeast?s most talented players and is perennially ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation. Four-year-starting goalie Larry Falkman received first-team All American honors in 2002 and was quickly drafted by the Long island Lizards, a professional team that won the Major League Lacrosse title the previous year. Southampton Graduate Campus plays in the country?s premier Division II league, the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, with other national powerhouses: Adelphi, CW Post and NYIT. Veteran coach Ralph Pepe has a knack for finding standout players and important role-players that enhance team chemistry. In his 11 years as skipper, the Colonials have had four playoff berths and won two Eastern College Athletic Conference titles. Because of the hard-hitting nature of their sport, Southampton Graduate Campus lacrosse players bond like few other athletes and continue friendships long after graduation.

SOUTHAMPTON COACHES

Ralph Pepe inherited Southampton Graduate Campus' lacrosse team in 1993 and has been involved in the sport for over 30 years. Entering his 11th year as a head coach, he has led his team to six winning seasons, three playoff appearances, two ECAC titles and a winning reputation despite being in a league with several of the country's best teams. "We've gained a lot of respect in the lacrosse community," said Pepe, whose record is 64-47. "Our players and coaches take a lot of pride in that.? He has been an assistant coach at SUNY-Stony Brook and Sachem High School and a head coach at Smithtown West High School. Pepe, a 1978 graduate of Dowling College, teaches at Sachem High School North. He lives in East Quogue with his wife, Mary, and four children, Kate, Ralph, Emily and Megan.

Blayney McEneany brings his defensive expertise to the Colonials for a nineth season as assistant coach. "When a player gets individual instruction from Blayney, it really improves his skill on defense," Pepe said. "He also has an exceptional knowlege of game strategy." The 1968 Yankton College graduate coached at Sachem High School for 10 years and in 1979 led them to a state title. He lives in Miller Place with his wife Janet and three children, Moira, Kara and Blayney.
