Women's Basketball 2000-2001 Outlook

Half of the players will be different and so will the coaching staff, but the one thing the Southampton Graduate Campus Lady Colonials hope to keep the same is their winning tradition of recent years.

Last season, the Lady Colonials broke the school mark for wins, finishing 20-9 overall and entering the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs for the sixth-straight year.

Going into this season, Southampton is focused on not only another ECAC title, but is shooting for a grander stage: reaching the NCAA Tournament. New coach Jim Meyer has confidence that this year's team is destined for great accomplishments: "We will make a run at the NCAAs. That is our unified focus this season," he said. Meyer formerly was an assistant coach at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus, where he helped guide the Lady Blackbirds from 12th place to third place in their league in just three years.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity. Fans can expect a fast-paced game with a lot of points on the board," he said.

Colonial Generals

Coming into the new season, the Lady Colonials are under new leadership. Taking over the reigns is coach Jim Meyer, who brings with him not only a winning resume, but lots of energy and an intense passion for the game as well.

Meyer comes to Southampton from the Brooklyn campus of Long Island University where he served as Assistant Coach for the past three seasons. Athletic Director Mary Topping believes the Lady Colonials have selected the right guy for the task of replacing Anthony Bozzella, who led the team to a 20-9 record last season.

"We are thrilled to have Jim aboard," said Topping, "He's a great motivator and really knows how to recruit."

Meyer, 31, brings thirteen years of coaching experience to Southampton and is eager to utilize his knowledge and energetic demeanor to guide the Lady Colonials to another championship. "I am really excited about this opportunity. This is a dream come true," said Meyer.

Joining coach Jim Meyer on the sidelines this season will Ken Moyers. The two have a long history together and are thrilled to have the opportunity to work together in maintaining the Lady Colonials winning ways.
