Entering her second season playing for the Lady Colonials, six-foot Kerri Rueb embodies the team spirit and dedication that has become the staple of Southampton's basketball program. "Our team chemistry is something that I'm very excited about," said Head Coach Jim Meyer, "and Kerri Rueb is definitely at the forefront of that." Meyer was impressed with her team commitment when she came out to Southampton during the summer to help the recruits. Coming off a year in which she was the Lady Colonial's lone first year player, Rueb will provide guidance for a Southampton team full of freshmen. In 1999, as a senior at Massapequa High School, Rueb was honored as a Newsday All Long Island Team selection and as a junior she led her team to the Class A Long Island Championship. "Kerri's been working extremely hard during the summer," said Meyer, "She's come in with some new post moves and she's looking to be a major contributor to this year's team." The coach not only appreciates Rueb's focus on team, but enjoys the fact that she always wears her smile. Rueb, who wanted to attend a school close to home, came to Southampton because it is a small school and close to the beach. She is confident about the Lady Colonial's chance to have a winning team. "We are going to have an exciting season...and the coaches want to win just as bad as we do," she said.
