The Lady Colonials have a virtual blue chip in six-foot freshman Jill Jensen, who was rated among the best centers in high school basketball, bringing with her not only excellent shot-blocking skills, but a fine shooting touch and rebounding abilities as well. Head coach Jim Meyer expects Jensen to help fill in at the post and is very high on the first-year player. "She is very agile, active around the glass and can hit the eight and ten foot jumpers," said Meyer, "I look for big things from her." Similarly, Jensen has high expectations for the Lady Colonials. She has set a personal goal of reaching the championships. Attracted to Southampton because of the basketball program's reputation, Jensen is excited for the opportunity to perform. An All-County player as a junior at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington, NY, it is easy to see why she was classified as "the total package" by her coach. With excellent scoring touch and rebounding talent, Jensen blocked ten shots during a game versus Commack on February 8, 2000. Jensen also demonstrated the ability to come through under pressure, scoring at the buzzer to beat first-place Connetquot three days later. Among Jill's athletic career highlights is winning a bronze medal at the New York Empire State Games.
