Senior Shannan Henley is familiar with success on the basketball court. As a sophomore, Henley hit a clutch three-pointer in the closing seconds to ensure victory in the ECAC finals and another championship for the Lady Colonials.
This season, Henley has recovered from off-season knee surgery and hopes to lead the charge for another successful campaign. "She's a leader and I'm really excited about Shannan and her leadership this season," said Head Coach Jim Meyer, "She will play a huge role in determining how successful we are."
Henley is a two-sport star and is ready to continue bringing qualities to the court that don't show up in the boxscore. One former coach who witnessed Henley's aggressive court qualities said, "She's not afraid to dive for loose balls." It is that type of desire that identifies Henley on the court.
A standout high school athlete from Maryland, Henley eclipsed several school records as a sophomore. Records which had taken others four years to establish. In 1997, she was named a First Team Carroll County and All Conference selection for soccer and basketball, Honorable Mention All State for soccer, and was a Second Team Baltimore Metropolitan Area pick for basketball. In 1996, she was named to the AAU Basketball All-Tournament Team.
As a rookie at Southampton, Henley had the most three-pointers on the team and was second in steals. Last season she led the team in steals with 50 and was one of the best from the free-throw line.
