It is a rewarding feeling to jump ahead of the class. In 6-foot-1 freshman forward Jennifer Geiger, the Lady Colonials have a player who knows how to get a fast start. As a freshman at W.C. Mepham High School in Bellmore, NY, Geiger started on the varsity team and would become the first basketball player, male or female, to reach the 1,000 point plateau. Scoring is not the only aspect of her game. According to Head Coach Jim Meyer, Geiger is "The leaper of our freshmen clan." Meyer added, "She'll be blocking a lot of shots around the rim. Jen's got great leaping ability and will make guard think twice before taking shots on us." An All County player in both basketball and volleyball in high school, as a senior she averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 8 assists a game. Geiger's, whose favorite aspect of the game is the fast break and running the floor has great aspirations for her career at Southampton. She plans "to be a major contributor to our upcoming championship." The Lady Colonials share this common goal of getting a jump on the rest of the conference.
