Sometimes being away from something builds a desire to return to it. Such is the case with sophomore Melinda Fowler. After taking a year off, she returns to the game with a strong desire to play a leading role in this year's success of the Lady Colonials. "Melinda has looked impressive during the individual workouts," said Head Coach Jim Meyer, "plus she is active around the basket." Meyer is also impressed with her rebounding prowess, but is especially pleased with Fowler's aggressiveness. "She is continuously on the attack and that's a quality that I really enjoy," he said. As a senior at Jamestown High in Missouri, the 5-foot-11 Fowler was an All State Selection, picked as the conference MVP, and broke her high school's records in both scoring (1,771 points) and rebounding (1,263). According to her high school coach Gwenda Barton, "Melinda is quick and a great defensive player. She was our go-to player." Among Fowler's athletic highlights was being named All Conference and All District all 4 years of her high school tenure. Fowler is pleased with the level of confidence the coaching staff has in the team and enjoys the camaraderie displayed by teammates. "We have a great time together, on and off the court," she said.
