Soccer Team To Be Honored at Halftime Show

Southampton, NY -- Southampton College of Long Island University officials and members of the Southampton Town Board will honor the 1999 Colonial men's soccer team on Wednesday, December 15, during halftime of a home basketball game.

The soccer team ended the season 16-1-2 and ranked No. 2 in the country in Division II. Last month, the team won its first-ever appearance in the NCAA tournament. It was the first national playoff berth for the Colonials since men's basketball in 1972. Southampton College beat East Stroudburg 2-1 in triple overtime in Southampton before 600 fans. The Colonials lost in the NCAA quarterfinals in quadruple overtime 3-2 to Southern Connecticut State - the eventual National Champion.

The Colonials' home win vs. East Stroudsburg will be aired on Cablevision Channel 27 on Saturday, December 11, at 12:30 p.m.

Southampton College's basketball teams are both off to 2-1 starts. Both the Lady Colonials and the Runnin' Colonials play Queens College in a doubleheader on December 15. Tickets are available at the door for $2. The Lady Colonials, powered by 6-3 center Rita Breivaite, start at 5:30 p.m. The Runnin' Colonials, paced by conference scoring champ Curtis Small, start at 7:30 p.m. The halftime show honoring the soccer team will be during the latter game, at approximately 8 p.m. College officials will be joined by members of the Southampton Town Board in a ceremony.

The Colonials soccer team won the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference title with an 8-0 league record. Johan Kron (60 career goals) was named NYCAC player of the year while Coach Ed Goodhines (101-59-7 lifetime record) was named Coach of the Year. An unprecedented six Colonials were named to the NYCAC First Team.
