Oikos: Nature Music Festival

Celebrate the earth at Oikos, a music festival with nature-oriented activities, exhibits, and entertainment for the entire family. The event will be held on the South Lawn at Southampton College of Long Island University, Saturday, May 8 from noon until sunset, rain or shine. The event is free and open to the public. Portnoy Wilson, a popular Long Island band with diverse influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Dave Matthews, will be the featured performance at 3 PM. Jazz, punk, folk, rap and groove bands from Westhampton Beach High School, Hampton Bays High School, Southampton College, and elsewhere will also perform. Environmental organizations and student groups will present information about recycling, bay friendly landscaping, and composting throughout the day. A water treasure hunt and guided nature walks will be held every hour. Storytelling, face painting, and Frisbee golf will be on-going events. Hillary McPartlon and Georgia Heyward, students in the Friends World Program at Southampton College, and members of the Westhampton Beach High School's environmental group, CURE , organized Oikos.
