Fax: (516) 283 4081A cello and piano chamber music performance will take place Sunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. in the Avram Theater at Southampton College.
The concert, featuring Nicola Heinrich on cello and Mirjam von Kirschten on piano, is a benefit for the College's Performing Arts Department.
Nicola Heinrich studied cello at Munich's Richard Strauss Conservatory in her native Bavaria. She continued her education at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington as a student of cello legend Janos Starker. Since 1996 she has been a member of the Bielefeld Philharmonic where she served three seasons as acting Assistant Principal Cello. As a chamber musician she toured throughout Germany with Jan Polacek's "Cello x 12" ensemble. She is on the faculty of the city music school in Halle/Westfalen.
In 1996 Mirjam von Kirschten won the accompanying prize awarded each year by the German Music Council and spent the next concert season playing all over Germany, including at some of the country's most prestigious festivals. She won scholarships from the State of Bavaria and the Richard-Wagner-Berband for her studies at the Musikhochschule in Munich and at the Indiana University School of Music in Bloomington. The concert will feature works by Beethoven, Dvorak, Chopin, Brahms and David Popper. Tickets to the concert are $6 for all seats. For further information, contact Michael Disher at 287-8088.
