Southampton Players will present Shakespeare's classic comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, as the season's opening engagement November 11-14 and 18-20. The play marks the first performance by Southampton Players in the newly renovated Avram Theater in the Fine Arts Center at Southampton College.

The production will be dedicated to Dr. and Mrs. Morrell Michael Avram of Southampton and Brooklyn Heights for whom the theater is named. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. For reservations, call the Southampton Players Box Office at 287-8480. Two special performances at no charge will be held for local high school students.

Michael Disher directs the production with design supervision by Chris Lombardo. It will feature a dual cast, with different actors performing each role on alternate evenings. A total of 37 actors, including students from Southampton College of Long Island University and community residents, will be featured.

A Midsummer Night's Dream still maintains its brilliance, bite, and wit after 400 years. Most recently, this quintessential fantasy of love, lust, and dreams was featured in the summer movie release starring Calista Flockhart, Michelle Pfeiffer and Kevin Klein, and in the Royal Shakespeare Company's current video release.

In an effort to open the theater to members of the community who might not otherwise have a chance to see the play, Michael Disher has arranged two performances for local high school students at no charge, on November 10 Southampton High School students and on November 14 for Hampton Bays High School students. The effort is part of a new program, Southampton Players Outreach Theater (SPOT), started after the overwhelming response by war veterans to the Southampton Players performance of The 1940's Radio Hour last spring. For that production, Disher admitted all veterans at no charge for the opening night's performance which was dedicated to them. The actors featured in the production include: Scarlet Arbuckle, Sean Boden, Winifred Boyd, Val Chamberlain, Aric Clark, Paul Conroy, Nicole DePonte, Vince Doty, Kenneth Esserine, Drew Gehrken, Drew Glines, Ray Hamlin, Laurie Hall, Andrew Karp, Chelsea King, Brian Lang, Kim Lent, Liz Lux, Michael Marolla, Katrina McCauley, Lisa McCluskey, Brian McGee, Tamarynde Miller, Christina Mkritchian, Kymme Napoli, PJ Palladino, Hope Pulick, Ryan Punch, Amon Purinton, Nicholas Regester, Tom Rosante, Jeremy Ryan, Ryan Scala, Jeff Schaeffer, Carol Sherman, Jackie Townsend, and Ericka Winne.
