Southampton, NY -- For more than 20 years, the public has been invited to donate boats and equipment to help support the Marine and Environmental Science programs at Southampton College of Long Island University.

The Marine Science Center also is seeking a donation of a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

To make a donation, or to purchase donated boats or equipment, contact Richard McIntyre, Director of the Marine Science Center. He can be reached by phone at 516-287-8393, fax at 516-287-8419 or email at rmcintyre@southampton.liu.edu.

"This is a great opportunity for people to contribute a vessel they are not using, or to get a good deal on a previously owned boat," said McIntyre. "Our students rely on much of this equipment to do their marine science research."

The donated boats are not only utilized by the College's Marine Science and Sailing programs, they also help generate revenue for updated laboratory and field equipment. Tax advantages may apply to any donations.

The Marine Science Center, located one block south of the campus, is the site of laboratories, classes and docking space for several vessels, including the research vessel "Paumanok." These elements are an integral part of the College's nationally recognized Marine and Environmental Sciences programs, which have produced 31 Fulbright Scholarships in the past 24 years.
