WRITERS ON WRITING: SUMMER SERIES AT Southampton College

The Southampton College Writers on Writing reading and lecture series, featuring distinguished authors and their insights on the craft of writing, will be held June 30 - July 8 in the Duke Lecture Hall. Each lecture will begin at 8 PM. The focus this year is "What's Wrong with American Writing?" The schedule, subject to change, is as follows:

Wednesday, June 30 Panel Discussion: with poet, Billy Collins, and short story writer, Robin Hemley

Thursday, July 1 George Plimpton, participation journalist, author, actor - introduced by Roger Rosenblatt, author, commentator

Friday, July 2 Walter Bernstein, screen writer whose credits include The Front, Semi-Tough, Failsafe, The Molly Maguires, and his blacklist memoir, Inside Out (Knopf).

Saturday, July 3 Francine Prose, author of Hunters and Gatherers, Primitive People

Monday, July 5 Sidney Lumet, director whose credits include Twelve Angry Men, Fail Safe, Serpico, The Verdict, and Gloria

Tuesday, July 6 Kaylie Jones, novelist, A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries Wednesday

Wednesday, July 7 Student Readings

Thursday, July 8 Panel Discussion: Nahid Rachlin, novelist, and Steven O'Connor, non-ficiton writer

The fee for the complete series is $75, or $15 per reading. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Southampton College Summer Office at (516) 287-8349. The Writers on Writing series is part of the 24th annual Summer Writers Conference which offers a forum for writers of all genres to study and discuss writing through workshops taught by prominent writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
