Students from Okinawa, Japan Highlight Southampton College Art Exhibit

Southampton, NY -- As a result of an exchange between Long Island University and the Okinawa Prefectural University of Art, an exhibit featuring the graphic design works of Japanese students will be held Oct. 30 to Nov. 28 in the Fine Arts Gallery at Southampton College.
A reception will take place Thursday, Nov. 13 from 4-6 p.m. in the Avram Family Gallery at Southampton College.
The event, sponsored by the Okinawa Center of Long Island University at C.W. Post, is free and open to the public. For information call (516) 287-8427.
The sophomore students, all of whom are graphic design or print production majors, created the work under the direction of Mr. Chokai Wauki of the Okinawa Prefectural University of Art.
Fine Arts Professor Yoshiharu Higa, who teaches at Southampton College, and often gives lectures and seminars at C.W. Post, is overseeing the exchange. A renowned photographer from Japan whose work has appeared in Life magazine, Higa also lectures at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Art.
Long Island University and the University of Meio University in Okinawa, Japan, have joined together to develop academic and cultural programs that foster the internationalization of higher education. Southampton has hosted Japanese students as well as Japanese professors who have taught Fine Arts classes in Ceramics, Photography, and Painting at Southampton.
