NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIST PHIL YOUNG WILL DISCUSS HIS WORK NOW ON EXHIBIT IN THE Southampton Graduate Campus FINE ARTS CENTER
(516) 287-8313
Fax: (516) 283-4081
Artist Phil Young, whose exhibition at the Southampton Graduate Campus Fine Arts Center will be on view through April 30, will discuss his Native American background and how it influences his work during an artist's talk and reception planned on Thursday, April 18, at 5:30 pm in the Avram Family Gallery in the Fine Arts Center.
Young, an artist of Cherokee, Irish, and Scottish descent, draws upon his native worldview and emotionally painful history in an attempt "to weave broken threads of his family's history back together." His work reflects both his search for cultural identity and his personal struggle to cut through the myths that surround and distort the lives and histories of native peoples.
The talk, presented by the Fine Arts Gallery, has been generously supported by the Avram Family Forum and the Center for Cultural and Racial Diversity.
For further information phone Beth Giles, in the Arts and Media Division at Southampton Graduate Campus at (516) 287-8427.
