An exhibit of works by award-winning photographer Co Rentmeester will be displayed in the Southampton Campus Fine Arts Gallery January 29 through February 28. A gallery reception at 4:30 p.m. and a talk by the artist at 5 p.m. are planned on Thursday, February 1, in the Avram Family Gallery.

Rentmeester's photo of a battle weary tank crew in Viet Nam won the 1967 World Press Photo Grand Prize. In 1972 he published a book of photographs taken of the people and landscapes of Indonesia, titled Three Faces of Indonesia. A selection of large color dye transfers from this book will make up the exhibit.

Other awards he has received include Magazine Photographer of the Year, Best Sports Picture of the Year, twice, and Best Feature Story Award, twice, all from the Missouri School of Journalism; and the Medal of Distinction from the New York Art Directors Club.

Rentmeester started work as a free-lance photographer for LIFE in 1965 and took dramatic photos of the Watts riots. The next year he joined the staff at LIFE and spent his next three years in Asia, much of it in Viet Nam, where he covered everything from combat to pacification.

A native of Amsterdam, Rentmeester received his Bachelor's Degree in Photographic Arts from the Los Angeles Art Center School in 1965. He still contracts with LIFE and other commercial clients such as A T & T., the U.S. Army, the U.S. Postal service, the U.S. Mint, and AEG Powertools.

The Fine Arts Gallery at Long Island University's Southampton Campus is open to the public Monday through Friday noon to 5 p.m. and by appointment. For further information call the Fine Arts Center at (516) 287-8427.
