Fall 1995
New Faculty and Staff

The College welcomes two new full-time faculty members as the Fall semester begins. They are Harold A. Riggs, Assistant Professor of Physics, and John Reilly, Assistant Professor of Communications.

Harold Riggs, who joins the Natural Science Division, comes to Southampton from Brandeis University where he was a postdoctoral research associate in the Physics Department. He earned his Masters and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago and served as a teaching assistant there. He has attended numerous professional workshops including the Advanced NATO Workshop on Integrable Quantum Field Theories in Como, Italy and the Sixth Workshop on Grand Unification at the University of Minnesota. He has studied German, Hebrew and French as well as ancient Hebrew, Greek, Akkadian, Aramaic, Arabic and Hurrian. He replaces Allan Moose who has retired.

John Reilly, a resident of Hampton Bays, joins the Arts and Media Division. He has taught television and film production, television documentary: theory and techniques, mass communications, video production and other courses at the University of Kentucky, Rutgers, New York Institute of Technology, UCLA, CUNY and the New School for Social Research. Since 1970 he has been executive director and principal teacher in the Global Village Video Resource Center in New York City offering courses in professional television production and theory. He has made numerous documentaries ranging in subject from politics to the poor of Guatemala. He recently produced and directed the film Waiting for Beckett, a television documentary on the life and work of the Nobel Prize-winning writer Samuel Beckett, which won he Silver Hugo award at the Chicago International Film Festival. He replaces Judy Cramer.

Several new administrators also join the College this Fall. Christine Ann Silke of Smithtown is a new Admissions counselor temporarily replacing Vicky Colina-Brunne who is on a six-month maternity leave. Lisa Perl is the new laboratory assistant in the Natural Science Division replacing Anna Luke who has retired. Lisa, a 1994 graduate of Southampton, is married to P.J. Perl, a 1992 graduate of Southampton and a Fulbright Scholar who is now working at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Michael Kleinberg is the new EMT in the Health Services Office. Peggy Fezza, admissions secretary has resigned and Madeline Stern has been promoted to her position.

In other news, Al Siegel has given up his position as Academic Dean and returned to the classroom replacing Larry McCormick who has retired. Seth Magot, former Director of Academic Computing, has returned to teaching at C.W. Post. Isaura Marshall has resigned after working 31 years with the college as a secretary and administrative assistant. Carla Caglioti, Director of the Summer Program, is now working full-time and has taken on the additional duties of outcomes assessment.

Michael Arons is the new Vice President of Academic Affairs for the University, succeeding Walter Jones who has resigned to return to active scholarship. Dr. Arons has served in a variety of faculty and administrative positions at City College and CUNY over the past 30 years.
