Southampton, NY - Southampton College welcomed student Kristel Trow from the Winchester School of Art at Southampton University in England. She is doing an independent study under the guidance of Southampton College Professor Roy Nicholson.

Spring 2004 Exchange Student Kristel Trow from the Winchester School of Art at Southampton University in England with Pam Jackson, Internship and Exchange Program Coordinator at Southampton College of Long Island University.
Trow, a native of Wales and a second year student at Winchester, arrived this past winter for a creative and productive three-month stay in the United States. She is primarily interested in printmaking, film and installation. "My work concerns my life and the physical traces of the lives of people around me," said Trow. "I like to apply a unified aesthetic throughout the various mediums I use." The mediums Trow uses are video, photography, sound and performance.

When asked what contributed to her decision to attend Southampton College, Trow answered, "I was interested in experiencing a different culture and educational system. This college appealed to me because of the location and the academic options."

While at Southampton College Trow is also taking creative writing classes. She felt this was an important step in uniting the multiple mediums of her work. Trow has also been researching the history of Southampton College's windmill and hopes to complete a film and performance at the windmill before she returns to the U.K.

Most recently Trow has made a behind-the-scenes documentary and short film, which were extras on a DVD, recently released by the Arts Council of Wales. She has had short films screened at the I.C.A. in London and the U.G.C. cinema in Wales. For more information on Trow's work, please visit her website at www.kristeltrow.com.

Southampton College Professor Roy Nicholson organized the exchange program in the 1997 - 98 academic year with David Ferry, the head of the Printmaking Department at WSA. Current Southampton College students Kristin Svorinic and Kaiti McGown are studying at The Winchester School of Art, which was founded over 120 years ago and remained an independent School until it joined the University of Southampton a few years ago. In a similarity to Southampton College, with its distinctive campus and resources of a large university, WSA now receives the support resources of a major research-led university which have enhanced its capability to deliver programs of the highest quality to its students.
