631-287-8313Southampton, NY - Southampton College of Long Island University BFA student Noah Hoffstaetter's paintings will be on display in the Avram Gallery from May 3 to May 6.
Hoffstaetter's works of acrylic paint inlaid with ready-made objects deal with strange, mythical worlds and scenes that exist in the vast regions of interstellar space, as well as on Earth.
"My work tends to have a kind of tribal, Zen-like influence that gives it meditative qualities," said Hoffstaetter. His paintings have been described as "windows into the unknown" and "way ahead of their time." Each of Hoffstaetter's vibrant and metallic pieces depict fantasy worlds of abstract imagery presented alongside short descriptions of the surreal world on display.
"I want to share my visions with the world," Hoffstaetter states. "Through the combination of visual and storytelling, I am out to make the unbelievable look and sound believable."
The Avram Family Galleries, named for Dr. Michael Avram whose financial support made both the theater and the galleries possible, are located in the Fine Arts Building on Southampton College's 110-acre campus overlooking Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on Long Island's East End. Both student works and those of professional artists are displayed in the 700 square foot facility. Featured artists have included David Ferry, Herman Cherry, Susan Graham, Chip Cooper and Susanna Starr.
The public is invited to attend. The Gallery is open weekdays 12-5 p.m. and by appointment; please call (631) 287-8234 for more information.
