Down Syndrome Conference Draws Participants From Throughout the U.S.

Southampton, NY - Southampton College's two-day conference on Down Syndrome, co-sponsored with the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foudnation took place Friday, April 23 at the Holiday Inn in Ronkonkoma. The conference was aimed at teachers, parents, professionals and students interested in appropriate interventions for children with Down syndrome, Applied Behavior Analysis, proactive strategies for dealing with challenging behaviors, speech and language intervention and classroom inclusion.
The featured speaker this year was world-renowned child development specialist Dr. Jennifer G. Wishart of the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Wishart, research advisor to the Scottish, UK and European Down Syndrome Associations, gave the keynote address "Down Syndrome: Looking Back, Looking Forward."
Other presenters include Dr. Edward Carr from Stony Brook University, Joanne Gerenser and local advocacy groups.
