Southampton College "Writers Talk" Welcomes Novelist and Journalist Alix Strauss
Author Reads Selections From Her Work And Discusses Publishing

Southampton, NY - Alix Strauss author of "The Joy of Funerals" published in May of 2003 by St. Martin's Press will speak as part of the Spring 2004 Southampton College "Writers Talk" lecture series on Wednesday, April 28. The talk is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Pratt Center's Oceanview Lounge. Strauss will read selections from her novel, discuss the publishing world, what it's like to be a first-time author and how to break into the business of writing. There will also be a question and answer session.

Strauss' debut novel "The Joy of Funerals," was the winner of the Ingram Award and named Best Debut Novel by "The New York Resident" magazine. Strauss has written articles that have appeared in "The New York Times," "The New York Post," "The Daily News," "Time" magazine among others. She has appeared on CNN and VH-1 and has recently been featured as today's new trend writer by CBS' Morning Show, and ABC TV. Her stories have appeared in "Hampton Shorts Literary Journal," the "Idaho Review" and "Quality Women's Fiction." She is the recipient of several awards and fellowships: The Wesleyan Writers Conference, Skidmore College Writer's Institute, Sarah Lawrence Summer Writer's Workshop and Squaw Valley's Screenwriters' Summer program. Her short story, "Shrinking Away," won the David Dornstein Creative Writing Award.

"Strauss is a sharp-eyed accountant of the fleeting moments that wound us," said "Elle" magazine about her debut.
