631-287-8313Southampton, NY - Dr. Dan MacDonald, an assistant professor at the School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, will present a talk entitled "Mixing and Turbulence in a Salt Wedge Estuary: A Physical Overview of the Fraser River Estuarine System," on Wednesday, April 14 at 1:15 p.m. in the College's Duke Lecture Hall.
MacDonald, whose interests include environmental engineering and estuarine management, worked on a research project that focused on the dynamics of the Fraser River Estuary, a highly stratified estuary in British Columbia, Canada. His study addressed issues of frontal structure and stratified turbulence within the near-field region of the developing plume, as well as tidal cycle variability of mixing processes within the estuarine channel. His research findings were the basis for his Ph.D. thesis.
In addition to his research interests, MacDonald has been employed by several environmental engineering/consulting firms where his professional interest in environmental science and engineering has focused on the hydraulic evaluation of dams, river systems, estuaries and the transport and fate issues associated with the remediation of hazardous waste sites.
