With a curriculum and approach designed to direct artistic development, this major will provide students with a liberal undergraduate education in contemporary arts and media studies.
"The development of digital media technologies has resulted in the blending or integration of many traditional art and design disciplines," said Southampton College media arts professor Terry O'Daly. "Increasing accessibility to computer applications now allows the modern artist to create and communicate ideas across a wide range of media using similar skills and production methods."
The new major will provide students with theoretical and experiential knowledge in arts and media with a focus on fine arts, art history, graphic design, digital video, audio and photography, and web design.
