Southampton College "Writers Talk" Welcomes Siv Cedering and Fran Castan
Acclaimed Poets Read from Their Works and Discuss Publishing

Southampton, NY - Poets Siv Cedering and Fran Castan will read from recent works as part of the Spring 2004 Southampton College "Writers Talk" lecture series on Wednesday, March 24. Their talk is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Pratt Center's Oceanview Lounge.

Cedering, author of eighteen books, has also written songs and television programs for children. Her writing has appeared in "Harper's," "The New Republic," "Paris Review" and "Partisan Review." Her poems have earned the Emily Dickinson Award and the William Marion Reedy Award from the Poetry Society of America. Now a resident of Amagansett, she was born above the Arctic Circle in Sweden.

Castan's acclaimed poetry collection, "The Widow's Quilt," is based in part upon her experiences after her husband's death as a war correspondent in Vietnam. Her work has appeared in "Ms." and "Poetry" magazines, and has been anthologized in books such as "On Prejudice: A Global Perspective" and "From Both Sides Now." A recipient of The Poetry Society of America's Lucille Medwick award, Castan formerly worked at "The New Yorker" and "Scholastic" magazines.
