Registration Deadline Is April 7 For Down Syndrome Conference
Two Week Continuing Education Workshop Highlights Homicides of Long Island

Southampton, NY - The deadline for registration in Southampton College's two-day conference on Down Syndrome is April 7.

Emily Jones, assistant Professor of Psychology and Kathleen Feeley, assistant Professor of Education.
Titled "The Second Annual Conference on Best Practices in the Education of Children With Down Syndrome," the event takes place Friday, April 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Ronkonkoma. Pre-conference workshops will be held on April 22nd. It is co-sponsored by the Education and Social Science Divisions of Southampton College and the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation aimed at teachers, parents, professionals and students interested in appropriate interventions for children with Down syndrome, Applied Behavior Analysis, proactive strategies for dealing with challenging behaviors, speech and language intervention, and Inclusion.

The featured speaker this year is world-renowned child development specialist Dr. Jennifer G. Wishart of the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Wishart, research advisor to the Scottish, UK and European Down Syndrome Associations, will give the keynote address "Down Syndrome: Looking Back, Looking Forward."

Other presenters include Southampton College professors Dr. Kathleen Feeley and Emily Jones, Ph.D., Dr. Edward Carr from Stony Brook University, Joanne Gerenser and local advocacy groups. Continuing education credits are available for Behavior Analysts. Onsite childcare for parents of children with Down Syndrome is available on the conference day by reservation only, due to a limited availability.
