631-287-8313Southampton, NY - Four Southampton College professors will present a lecture on various aspects of the Long Island's South Shore Estuaries (LISSE) as part of the afternoon lecture series BrainWASH on Wednesday, March 10 at 1:15 p.m. in the College's Duke Lecture Hall.
Professors Chris Gobler, Brad Peterson, Rob Turner and Joseph Warren recently received funding from New York Sea Grant's barrier island breach research initiative to conduct surveys throughout the entire range of LISSE including the Great South Bay, Moriches, Bay, Quantuck Bay and Shinnecock Bay. They will discuss what the research will entail - field experiments that assess the effects of plankton communities, sediment composition and predation on the growth of eel grass and hard clams - and hope to interest more students to work with them on the project.
The informal free lectures, presented by the Natural Science Division of Southampton College, allow a public peek into the research of the College's faculty and students.
For further information on the series contact Prof. Joe Warren at the College at (631) 287-8390 or joe.warren@liu.edu.
