Southampton College Announces New Administrative Positions
Development and Admissions Teams Welcome New Recruits; New Environmental/Occupational Safety Officer NamedContact:

631-287-8313Southampton, NY - A number of new administrative positions have been created and others filled as Southampton College progresses through the 2003-04 academic year. The new recruits have joined the College from as far away as Vermont and Massachusetts and a newly-created position of environmental/occupational safety officer has been filled.
"We are pleased to announce these new appointments and wish these professionals well as they work to recruit new students and assist the College in our overall mission of promoting our academic programs and many opportunities for experiential learning," said College Provost Daniel Rodas.
Barbara Grodd is the Senior Director of Development/Campaign Manager for Southampton College. Barbara has over 15 years of experience in development for major institutions, having most recently been director of advancement for the Long Island Cancer Center and the Centers for Molecular Medicine at Stony Brook University, where she served for four years. Prior to her positions at Stony Brook, Barbara was the vice president for development at Beth Abraham Health Services in the Bronx, director of development for the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and served in several senior development and administrative positions at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She lives in Stony Brook with her husband, Robert.
Thomas McClintock is the College's first full-time environmental/occupational safety officer. He holds a B.S. in biology from Binghamton University and was enrolled in the M.S. program in Environmental and Waste Management at Stony Brook University. A resident of Miller Place, he most recently served as an assistant project manager for an environmental services corporation.
Judith Rockway, a resident of Coram, is the new director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). She oversees a wide range of supportive services including academic, personal and career counseling for degree-seeking freshmen who are both educationally and economically disadvantaged. She is a graduate of SUNY at Fredonia, received her master's degree in social work from Stony Brook University and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Fordham University.
Joining the administrative ranks in the Continuing Education Office are Maribeth Mallman as Activities Director and Erica Shafer as Assistant Director of Continuing Studies. Mallman, a 2002 graduate of Cedarville University, plans the cultural activities for the international students on campus. She is currently organizing a trip to Miami for spring break in which she will accompany the students. Shafer received her B.S. in psychobiology from Southampton College in May 2003. While a student, she was honored with numerous awards, including an Academic Excellence Award, an athletic scholarship and scholarships from the McKinney Education Foundation, Independent Order of Forester and Edward C. Glanz. A resident of Hampton Bays, she interned at Jungle Friends in Gainesville, FL., where she worked with capuchin and spider monkeys and held another internship for the United States Senate.
A new addition to the Admissions Office is Kristina Kupferschmid as an admissions counselor. Kupferschmid joins the College from Newport, VT. She earned a B.A. in history from the University of Rochester where she worked as an administrative office assistant in the Office of College Advancement.
Robin Harris joins the College from South Weymouth, MA., as a librarian's assistant. She is a graduate of SUNY at Cortland and studied at Polytechnic of North London and Braintree Institute for Computer Related Studies. She previously worked for Southampton College Library for four years as the assistant to the director for acquisitions and the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University as a reserve department supervisor from 1988 through 1991.
Rebecca Wiseman is filling an interim position as director of counseling. She is responsible for individual, group and educational counseling. Wiseman, who earned her bachelor's degree in social work and secondary education and her master's degree in social work from Boston University, has extensive counseling experience in California. She most recently served as the associate director for the Long Island Farm Bureau.
Mary Fasanella has been named director of the Learning and Writing Center. A resident of Hampton Bays, she received her undergraduate degree from Skidmore College, a master's degree from Hunter College and was a student in the Southampton College graduate reading program. In her new position, she administers the College's developmental reading program, its staff, and its tutoring components. She also teaches developmental reading and study skills classes to undergraduates. Her husband is Mark Fasanella, an art professor at Southampton College.
Friends World welcomed Keith Koppenhoefer as assistant director of admissions. Koppenhoefer earned a B.A. in philosophy of politics and law from Binghamton University as well as a B.A. in sociology from the same institution in 1995. He was previously an admissions counselor for Touro College: School of Health Science in Bay Shore, NY. Matthew Graville, a May 2003 Friends World graduate, serves as a liaison between students in the seven Friends World centers around the globe and the Friends World administration. He is from Seattle WA., and currently lives in Southampton.
Tim Lewis has been named director of development for WLIU 88.3 FM and WCWP 88.1 FM, the Long Island University Public Radio Network. Lewis has worked in various positions for a number of prestigious organizations including the United Nations, the New York Public Library, WNET/Thirteen, the New York Metropolitan Opera Association, and prior to joining WLIU, served as a senior major gifts officer for the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation. Also at WLIU, Michael Mackey, who has been with the station since 1998, has been promoted to a full-time position as a local news host and journalist. He is responsible for news gathering and on-air announcements. He is a resident of Southampton.
