Southampton, NY - Long Island University's Institute For Sustainable Development (ISD) will present "Ending Gridlock: East End Transportation Futures," from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 12, in Duke Lecture Hall. This all-day conference aims to address the hot topic of transportation issues on Eastern Long Island.

"This conference will give us all an opportunity to focus on a more holistic approach to the East End's transportation planning," said co-director of ISD and Southampton College professor Scott Carlin. "We need to look at new initiatives and priorities regarding the issue and address how gridlock can affect our quality of life."

The day's schedule of events include opening remarks by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and a lunch and keynote with Congressman Tim Bishop. Leading regional planners will offer their perspectives with a question and answer discussion and panelists will review the computer model used in forecasting by the Sustainable East End Development Strategies (SEEDS). Four afternoon workshops on ferry services, transit and land use, regional bus and rail services and implementation strategies will also take place. Participants will evaluate current options and prioritize sustainable transportation action plans.

Tickets, at $75 per person, can be obtained by calling Christina Hamm at the Institute (631) 287-8109.
