Southampton, NY – In a high scoring encounter, the Southampton College Colonials men’s basketball team opened their 2004-2005 campaign yesterday with an away win over Teikyo Post.

The Colonials came out firing from the start and by the half it looked like it was going to be a blow out win to the Hampton visitors as they went into the break with an 11-point lead.

However Teikyo had other thoughts and after figuring out how to stop Southampton getting a man free for the open shot, they at first closed the gap and then made it competitive and then dangerous for the Colonials who had to dig deep to take back the lead.

The Colonials finally closed out the game 98 – 93 thanks to the shooting of senior trio Leon Pursoo, Joaquin Smiths and Darrin Miller.

Pursoo led the way with 30 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals while Smits added a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. Miller shot 4-8 from three-point land for a total of 20 points.
