Southampton, NY – The Southampton College women’s basketball team set a campus record with its eighth-straight win Monday night, downing East Stroudsburg University away, 65-55.

The Lady Colonials are now 12-4 (10-3 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference). They not only are eyeing their first-ever league championship, but also the first-ever NCAA Tournament berth for a women’s program at the College.

In a battle for second place in the NYCAC Saturday at Southampton, the Lady Colonials downed Adelphi 68-62, overcoming a nine-point halftime deficit. Southampton College’s amazing freshmen duo led the team to victory: Leah Getz finished the game with 15 points, a career-high six steals and five rebounds while Sarah Mahan finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds. Getz was named NYCAC Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The Southampton College men’s basketball team (4-12, 4-9) is vying for a NYCAC playoff berth despite a rough early season. In the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader vs. Adelphi, the Runnin’ Colonials pulled off a 69-66 upset – the Colonials first victory over the Panthers in 23 tries, dating back to 1992.

Junior Tafare Berryman scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and junior Leon Pursoo totaled 26 points and 11 assists in the rare win.
