Southampton, NY – Dr. Paul Forestell, director of the psychobiology program at Southampton College, has been appointed acting dean of the College’s undergraduate programs. In this capacity, he will oversee the relocation of these programs to the University’s C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, NY, helping students to make a seamless transition.
Dr. Forestell, whose research interests include marine mammal behavior and animal cognition, began his career in Hawaii, where he served as senior research associate at the Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory and as research director for the Pacific Whale Foundation. In 1996, he moved to New York to head the newly created psychobiology program at Southampton College. Under his leadership, the program has thrived.
The author of various books and articles on whale and dolphin communication, he has brought his passion and expertise to his students not only in the classroom but also in the field, working side by side with them in the waters of Costa Rica and other exotic locales. Now Dr. Forestell will put his energy toward assisting the student body in this time of change.
In this new role, Dr. Forestell will be working with faculty and students to ensure that the College continues to deliver the top-quality education and personalized attention to which its students have become accustomed. He and his staff will focus on meeting the distinctive needs of students at various points in their college careers, including those who will be graduating in May 2005 as well as those who will be relocating to the new college at C.W. Post or transferring to other institutions.
Dr. Forestell earned bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology and philosophy from the University of New Brunswick and a Ph.D. in comparative psychology from the University of Hawaii.
