Southampton, NY — Ronald James Manganiello, named Distinguished Alumnus by Southampton College of Long Island University for 2004, will be honored at a special ceremony before Southampton College’s Commencement on Sunday, May 23.

Manganiello, managing partner of New Canaan Capital LLC, a merchant banking firm in New Canaan, CT., and a resident there, graduated with a B.S. in psychology in 1971 and went on to The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Manganiello began his illustrious career on Wall Street as a trainee with Merrill Lynch. He joined Lehman Brothers in 1976, where he rose to senior vice president of the Securities Division. He later moved to Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he eventually served as a corporate senior vice president. In 1986, he acquired the J.E. Hanger Company, a small family-owned provider of services and products for orthotic and prosthetic rehabilitation. As chair and CEO of the company, Manganiello consolidated the industry and completed 42 add-on acquisitions, growing the company’s annual revenues from $7 million to $150 million and making Hanger the largest company in its field.

One of Manganiello’s professional and personal highlights was testifying as an expert witness before the United States Senate regarding the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Act program in 1995.

Manganiello is a founder and director of The Bank of New Canaan. He also serves on the board of directors of Waveny Care Center Health Services, Acorn Holding Corporation, Low Respiratory and Home Medical Supplies, Inc., Sylhan, LLC and New England Orthotic and Prosthetic Systems, LLC. He was also a member of the Listed Company Advisory Board of the American Stock Exchange and the Young President’s Organization.
