Southampton, NY — A whole host of Southampton College of Long Island University programming is now on Cablevision’s new Educational and Governmental Channel 22 in Southampton Town.

The first events to be televised are recent men’s and women’s home basketball games against St. Thomas Aquinas and the Writers Talk literary lecture series. The Runnin’ Colonials can be seen on Saturday, December 13, at 6:15 p.m. and the Lady Colonials are scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. This week’s Writers Talk, featuring former New York Times Book Editor and local resident Harvey Shapiro, can be seen on Friday, December 12, at 10 p.m. There are additional broadcasts at other off-peak times. Check the schedule at www.southampton.liu.edu/news.

The Colonial games are hosted by Southampton Players star Jeff Schaeffer, taped by the College’s Online Sports Reporter Tami Foy and include coaches interviews and more. Writers Talk is taped and edited by MFA student Seth Hurley.

The televising of these programs is part of an ongoing partnership between Southampton College and Channel 22, with production headed by the Southampton College Public Relations Office. In the near future, the College hopes to produce and broadcast an assortment of other events happening on campus. Already on the air is an English as a Second Language course that is offered through the College’s Continuing Education program, "Careers on the East End" hosted by John McCrudden, Director of the Cooperative Education and Internship program, the Natural Science Department’s BrainWASH Lecture Series and a recent political debate held on campus.
