Lights, Camera, Action! Student Directorial Debuts at Southampton College

631-287-8313Southampton, NY Under the academic tutelage of Southampton College Theater Director Michael Disher, four students were selected to step beyond the footlights and into the most daunting of theatrical shoes The Director.
On Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Avram Theater, the Colleges Student Directors Workshop will present an evening of eclectic theater showcasing the directorial debuts as a preface to the upcoming InterAct performances.
"The Student Directors Workshop allows students the rare opportunity to present current, contemporary, and edgy theater in front of a live audience," said Disher. "The students were chosen to direct in an overall goal to acquaint them with all facets of theatrical production and have them actually experience those roles."
This years selected directors are Caleb Bartlett with Christopher Durangs "Baby With the Bathwater," David Almodovar with "Interrogation," Ali Ouni with "Alice" and Shaun Knight with Woody Allens meditative drama "Interiors." Bobby Shortle, Sarah Boes and Nicole Scerbo will star in "Baby with the Bathwater," Holly Knowles and James King will be featured in "Interrogation, "Alice" stars Ali Ouni and Ashley Nicole and "Interiors" will feature Wil McLung, James King, Jackie Townsend and Rachel Schlesinger.
The evening performances will be followed by the 8th Annual InterAct Play Festival of "He Said, She Said," on January 30-31 and February 6-7, 2004. These highly innovative, original, student-written one-act plays provide the only local, adult-written original theater on Eastern Long Island. Many of the plays come out of Southampton College's esteemed MFA in Writing workshops with award-winning playwright Robert Reeves, famed cartoonist and humor writer Jules Feiffer and Time magazine essayist Roger Rosenblatt.
