Lady Colonials Soccer Receives No. 1 Seed in ECAC Tournament

Southampton, NY – After finishing the regular-season with a 15-4-1 record, Southampton College was selected as the number one seed in the 2003 ECAC Division II Women’s Soccer Championship. The tournament is a six-team field with the quarterfinal round being played at the higher seeds and the semifinal and championship rounds being played at No. 1 Southampton.

The semifinal format will feature No. 1 seed Southampton playing the winner of the No. 4 Philadelphia vs. No. 5 Southern Connecticut game while the No. 2 seed CW Post will play the winner of the No. 3 Bridgeport vs. No. 6 Holy Family game. Games are Saturday starting at 11 a.m.

The championship game will feature the two semifinal winners on Sunday, November 16 at 1 p.m.

The Lady Colonials finished the season with their best record ever, including a second-place 9-1-1 in their conference. The team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Northeast Region. The Lady Colonials finished the regular season with a big win over Bridgeport 3-1 on November 8. Southampton College has outscored its opponents 61-20 this season.

The women were led in scoring by sophomore Denise Domena for the second-consecutive year. She has 17 goals and five assists for a total of 39 points. The second leading scorer is freshman Paivi Kivisto with 10 goals and five assists for a total of 25 points.

In net for the Lady Colonials, freshman Caitlin Howard, of Farmingdale, N.Y., has been the star. She has manned the goal for 1348 minutes and has amassed 10 wins, with seven of those being shutouts, and 83 saves.

Kickoff for the Semifinals is at 11 A.M. The game will be immediately followed by No. 2 seed C.W. Post facing the winner of No.3 Bridgeport vs. No.6 Holy Family.
