- Eight Great "Jazz Legends," including Dave Brubeck, Marian McPartland, Percy Heath, Chico Hamilton, Clark Terry, Eddie Bert, and Teo Macero will receive the first ever Lifetime Achievement Awards from WPBX-FM, anchor station of the Long Island University Radio Network, and one of the few remaining radio stations in the US committed to jazz-oriented programming.
WPBX-FM's Lifetime Achievement Awards will be announced at a press party on Monday, June 3rd at 6 p.m. in the India House, One Hanover Square in the Wall Street district. Formal award presentations will be made at the station's first annual Jazz Legend's benefit on July 5th at the Wölffer Estate Winery in Sagaponack, Long Island. "WPBX is delighted to be able to celebrate the lives of these great jazz artists, both at this benefit and on the air every day," said Wallace Smith, WPBX general manager. "We celebrate the fierce independence, individualism, and risk-taking that marks the spirit of America by celebrating jazz and these great Jazz Legends who have spent a lifetime following the call."About WPBX-FM: Based on the campus of Southampton College, public radio station WPBX-FM 88.3 reaches a wide audience throughout the Hamptons, Eastern Long Island, and Southern Connecticut.
