- Wallace A. Smith, General Manager & Executive Director of
WPBX-FM of Southampton College, plans to announce "several important developments" on
Friday, July 5, during the station's first annual benefit event. The benefit, featuring cocktails,
summer dinner and dancing, will take place at the Wolffer Estate Vineyard in
Sagaponack, NY, from 7:30 to 11 p.m. The major feature of the event will be the JAZZ
LEGENDS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS to nine jazz stars who have
been associated with the East End of Long Island and Connecticut: Eddie Bert, Dave
Brubeck, Percy Heath, Chico Hamilton, Teo Macero, Marian McPartland, Billy Taylor, Clark
Terry, and Billie Ryan Walsh.
Entertainment will be provided by George Gee's Orchestra with jazz vocalist, Carla Cook.
