Southampton College Men's and Women's Basketball Teams Make Playoffs

No. 4 Seed Men Are Home Tomorrow vs. No. 5 NYIT; Lady C's Go to CW Post

Southampton, NY - Both the men's and women's basketball programs at Southampton College received New York Collegiate Athletic Conference playoff berths this weekend and will play in the league tournament's first round tomorrow, February 26.

The Southampton College men finished the regular season 15-11, 14-8 NYCAC, and received the No. 4 seed. They will host No. 5 New York Tech (16-13, 13-9) at 7 p.m. in the Southampton Gymnasium.

The Colonials had lost to NYIT in both regular season contests and will probably be without injured senior forward Jason Lewis (sprained ankle), who has scored 1702 points in his college career, placing him third on Southampton College's all-time list. However, the Colonials will still have the benefit of a home gym, where they are 8-4 this season, and possess one of the best scorers in the nation, senior guard Curtis Small, who has led the Colonials with his career-best 575 points so far this year. The last time the Colonials qualified for the playoffs was 1999-2000. The last time they qualified for a home playoff seed was 1985-86.

The Lady Colonials are 15-11, 14-8 NYCAC and travel to CW Post (15-9, 15-7) at 6 p.m. The Southampton College women are 2-0 vs. the Pioneers so far this year. This is the ninth straight year that the Lady Colonials have qualified for the playoffs.
