- Looking for some down to earth fun? Make plans to attend EARTHFEST on April 19 and 20 at Southampton College's Federal Field. The two-day free event is sponsored by P.E.A.C.E. (Protecting Every Aspect Concerning the Environment), a student organization at the College devoted to preserving the environment.
Planned activities range from a hunger banquet, an eye-opening activity using up to 50 volunteers to demonstrate global food distribution, to more than a dozen local bands including Vitamin X and Haile Unlikely, to a spirited recycling race, in which participants race to separate recyclables for prizes.
On Saturday, speakers will address various topics including light pollution, nuclear issues and solar energy. There will also be coordinated hikes at Shinnecock Hills and other local trails and as a special attraction Honda will have its new gas/electric hybrid car, Insight, on display.
The event is open to the public and will run from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19 and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. For more information on EARTHFEST or other activities sponsored by P.E.A.C.E., call coordinator Aatisha Singh at (631) 728-1558.
